Our exclusive sequential sim shifter is the result of a collaboration with the renowned gearbox manufacturer, Quaife Engineering. Utilizing the identical mechanism found in current Quaife gearboxes, this shifter provides an authentic driving experience, mirroring the feel of operating a real car. Its origin from an actual car ensures remarkable robustness, allowing users to be assertive in their handling without the fear of damaging any components. Not only does this shifter excel in performance, but it also boasts a visually stunning design, enhanced by the Perspex cover that offers a unique view of the entire mechanism during each gear change.

Building upon the success of our initial version 1 sequential shifter, we've incorporated user feedback to enhance the design. The new iteration features an easily adjustable gear lever with more positions, ensuring user comfort. This upgraded shifter operates more quietly, is sturdier than version 1, and includes an adjustable plunger for users to customize the strength of each gear change. A significant advancement in this version is the optional active shifting capability, employing a hydraulic system and software to permit gear shifts only when the gear is unloaded, closely replicating real car conditions.

Materials

Setting our gear shifters apart in the market is the choice of materials. While plastic dominates the market, we opt for the highest quality steel, specifically 835M19 commonly used in aerospace applications. To further enhance durability, we subject the material to heat treatment, resulting in case hardening. This process ensures that only the most specialized carbide/diamond tools can perforate the hardened material, creating a shifter built to last a lifetime.

Installation options include direct bolting underneath using 4 M6 bolts or attaching our plate to the shifter and bolting through the top into your setup through 4 holes.

Hydraulic Shift Lock Mechanism Explanation:

The prevalent issue with current shifters is the inability to simulate missed gears or interact with the software accurately. To achieve this, accurate simulation of different gearbox types, such as dog engagement and synchromesh, is essential.

Synchromesh: Commonly found in road cars, a synchromesh gearbox engages gears using cones to match gear speeds, holding them in place with multiple teeth. This results in minimal play when in gear, but there is a considerable surface area under load holding the gear in place. Synchromesh gear changes require the speed of the gears to be almost identical, necessitating the use of a clutch for all changes.

Dog Engagement: Common in race cars and most sequential gearboxes, dog engagement gears have multiple "dogs" on each gear with more space for engagement. This design allows for play when in gear, often leading to visible juddering in race cars. Shifting gears in dog engagement does not require a clutch, but it involves reducing the load on the dogs to release them, achieved by lifting the throttle on upshifts and blipping the throttle on downshifts.

Our Solution: Our shifter accurately replicates both shifting types. For dog engagement, users can pull the lever hard during acceleration, and it will not change gears until the throttle is lifted. This mimics race situations where preloading the lever is a common practice for faster shift times. For synchromesh, gear changes require pushing the clutch, but users can still preload the lever before engaging the clutch.
